Bulair, Eastern Balkan Mountains
Rosehip, hawthorn and lavender

From land with history.
S care for nature.

At the foot of the Eastern Balkan Mountains, near the village of Bulair, history and nature meet.

Not far from our plantations stand the Haemus Gates: an ancient defensive system that guarded the roads across the Balkan range for centuries. Here we grow rosehip and hawthorn, and in the Varna region also lavender, with respect for the land. For us, quality starts in the field.

Land that for centuries guarded the passes across the Balkans is now home to our plantations.

The gates of Haemus

Traces of temporary timber structures, older than the stone fort, were found on the site of the central fortress. The name comes from Haemus, the ancient name of the Balkan Mountains: portae Haemi.

The stone barrier

Three fortresses joined by a barrier wall about 2.3 km long guard the pass. The central one is known as Harmana. The exact dating of the separate phases is still debated.

The first descriptions

The brothers Karel and Hermann Škorpil describe the remains at the Germeto site, between Bulair and Golitsa.

The excavations and today

Excavations in 2005, 2007 and 2009 gave a clearer picture of how the walls were built. Today the ruins show the skill of their builders, and the land around them is home to our plantations.

Bulair is a village in the Eastern Balkan Mountains, southwest of Varna. Here the fields border broadleaf forest, grassland and scrub.

The land of Bulair lies within two protected sites of the European Natura 2000 network: BG0000133 Kamchiyska i Emenska planina for habitats and BG0002044 Kamchiyska planina for wild birds. The third, BG0002045 Kompleks Kamchia, lies in the wider Kamchia area.

Quality starts
in the field

Living next to natural habitats helps pollinators while the rosehip is in flower. We protect the soil and avoid unnecessary chemical inputs. We do not resell, so we know where every batch comes from.

Why Bulair?

Bulair lies at the foot of the Eastern Balkan Mountains, close to the Haemus Gates. Its land falls within two Natura 2000 protected sites. We grow rosehip and hawthorn there, alongside natural habitats.

Does Natura 2000 mean the product is organic?

No. Natura 2000 is a nature protection status of the land. Organic is a separate system with its own rules, inspections and certification. For every product we state which certificate covers it.

Do you sell retail?

No. We work with businesses: food, tea and cosmetics manufacturers, processors and wholesalers. If you need a small quantity for testing, write to us.

What is the minimum order quantity?

It depends on the product and packaging. State the quantity you need in your enquiry and we will confirm it in the quote. Exact minimums are being finalised.

Do you deliver outside Bulgaria?

Yes, within the EU. Delivery terms and transport are agreed in the quote.

Can I get a sample before ordering?

Yes. We send a sample after an enquiry that states the product, form and quantity.

Which documents do I receive?

Organic certificate, pesticide residue analysis and product specification. We issue a certificate of inspection for each shipment on request, as required for organic products.
